Pédro Kouyaté has a rich and varied musical background. In his youth in Mali, he studied music with the famous Symétric Orchestra led by Toumani Diabaté. After obtaining his degree in socio-anthropology in Bamako, Pédro Kouyaté left his hometown to accompany the Malian bluesman Boubacar Traoré on tours in Africa, Europe and the United States.
In 2006, Pédro Kouyaté moved to Paris and created his own band, the Pédro Kouyaté & Band. With this group, he interprets his own compositions inspired by his Malian origins as well as his discoveries and encounters in the West. The group is composed of talented musicians such as Dupuit on saxophone and flute, Vincent Bucher on harmonica and Renaud Ollivier on drums.
Pédro Kouyaté is also the main character of the musical film entitled “FOLY” directed by Sophie Comtet Kouyaté, a travel diary in Bamako. He regularly appears at the Musée de la Cité de la Musique in Paris, where he shares the art of griot and presents instruments specific to West Africa.
Over the years, Pédro Kouyaté has recorded several albums, including “ONE”, his first work with the Band, and “TWO YOU”, an acoustic album in duet with Renaud Ollivier at the bass. He also toured in Japan with other musicians and released albums such as “LIVE”, “TRAMONTANE” and “AÏNA”, a compilation of his best solo and band tracks.
