The Ballet de la diaspora camerounaise (BDC) is a company founded by Gabin Tchoupo, dancer-choreographer, and Mireille Souba, dancer. The company celebrates Cameroon's diversity through dance.

The current economic climate has led many dancers to disperse to the four corners of the world after gaining experience and proving themselves within various Cameroonian artistic structures such as the Fokamaise, the Ballet National Camerounais and the university ballets.

Under the impetus of Gabin TCHOUPO, these outstanding dancers and musicians came together in the French capital to renew their passion and continue to express their talent within the dance group that is the Ballet de la diaspora camerounaise - BDC.

Today, the BDC is made up of dancers, musicians, singers, actors and stilt-walkers, as well as a technical and logistical team. Together, they are leading a joint project to promote the traditional dances and music of Cameroon. The BDC embodies the cultural richness and artistic heritage of this country.

The show

The Ballet de la Diaspora Camerounaise (BDC) presents its new show entitled ‘NJEÜDÃ - LA SUCCESSION’. This choreographic piece takes us on an epic journey to the heart of Cameroonian tradition and culture.

NJEÜDÃ, which means ‘succession’ in the Medjumba language of West Cameroon, explores the identity references specific to each of the country's cultural areas. Fifteen dancers, musicians, singers and actors take to the stage to showcase Cameroon's cultural and artistic heritage.

The play tackles themes such as the quest for self, destiny and heritage, while celebrating the richness of traditional dance and music. The BDC offers us a captivating journey through the different facets of ‘Africa in miniature’.

NJEÜDÃ - THE SUCCESSION is an invitation to discover the diversity and depth of Cameroonian culture, through graceful movements, spellbinding rhythms and colourful costumes. Don't miss this unique artistic experience that brings together past, present and future in a whirlwind of dance and music.

The play opens with a striking event: the death of a king. Instead of going through the expected rituals, the designated successor refuses responsibility for the throne and flees across the country. During his journey, he encounters different peoples, is confronted with magic and is mentored by neighbouring sovereigns. Gradually growing in his quest for self, he forges political and matrimonial alliances with these kingdoms before finally returning home, ready to assume the role destined for him.

In this production, the company takes us on an epic journey through the different cultures found in Cameroon, nicknamed ‘Africa in miniature’: the variety of landscapes, atmospheres, music and dance is at the heart of this project, which uses tradition as the prism through which to understand and tell the story of this journey of initiation.

In short, ‘Njeüdã’ is a magical, spiritual piece of music that plunges us into the heart of a traditional rite of succession in Bamiléké country. Njeüdã is a multi-disciplinary choreographic exploration of tradition and contemporary writing, offering audiences a unique experience.
