Gypsy jazz is a style of jazz invented in France in the 1930s by Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli, at the crossroads of gypsy music and American jazz of the time.
As leader of the Hot Club de France quintet, where his genius on the guitar rivalled the virtuosity of violinist Stéphane Grapelli, Django Reinhardt set stages around the world alight between 1934 and 1953. Django Reinhardt died suddenly at the age of 43, leaving behind a major body of work that means he is still considered the pope of Gypsy Jazz today.
Many groups have paid tribute to Django Reinhardt since his death. LES GADJOS belong to this new generation of talented musicians who are truly devoted to his music.
Their repertoire is a subtle blend of atmospheric swing, Eastern music and Gypsy jazz, creating a cosy or festive atmosphere depending on the event.
Five musicians on stage: violin, clarinet, drums, accordion, double bass.
