Salsa originated in New York in the late 60s as a fusion of Cuban rhythms and jazz, then grew in the Puerto Rican community where it took off in the mid-70s.
Cuban salsa, also known as ‘Casino’, draws its inspiration from the dance figures practised in the casinos of Havana in the 1950s, to the rhythms of Cuban son. This couple dance is infused with African influences and is characterised by its spontaneity, creativity, elegance and sensuality.
Casino" is a lively dance that has preserved its vitality by constantly renewing itself.
Afro-Cuban dances, derived from the religious rituals practised by Cubans of African origin, are rich in rhythm, percussion, song and colour. The emblematic rumba comes in three styles: Yambu, Columbia and Guaguanco. Santería, a syncretic religion, has had a profound influence on these dances, which honour the Orishas.
Beyond Cuba, Afro-Cuban dance has conquered the world thanks to artists such as Celia Cruz and Tito Puente. Today, schools of Afro-Cuban dance are flourishing, preserving this vibrant and powerful heritage.
Afro-Cuban dance is a bridge between cultures, a celebration of life and resilience.
Whether you're a passionate dancer or just a spectator, let yourself be carried away by this bewitching and vibrant dance, where each movement tells a story of love, pain and freedom.

Aim of the workshops
Our Afro-Cuban dance workshops focus on learning original choreography inspired by different dance styles (casino, rumba, guaguanco, son etc).
They enable you to acquire the technical and rhythmic foundations you need to move forward in dance, while emphasising the search for well-being and harmony in rhythm and movement.
They are particularly aimed at those who want to make rapid progress in dance and who want to share the pleasure of dancing with others in a friendly atmosphere.
Workshop programme
The beginners/false beginners course focuses on learning to dance as it is transmitted in Cuba. Participants learn to master the basic steps, passes, rhythm and above all the style, a lo cubano. They are also introduced to the Rueda de casino. Very quickly, dancers acquire enough autonomy to move around in couples or solo and improvise figures of style.
In the intermediate/advanced classes, the emphasis is on perfecting technique, mastering rhythm, working on style and deciphering the music. Participants learn to dance the casino by introducing Afro-Cuban and rumba moves. Gradually, they will be able to dance with ease to fast rhythms and feel at ease in the Rueda de casino.
Workshop organisation
Weekly classes of 01H00 with the option of combining the salsa class with an Afro-Cuban / rumba dance class
Workshops in France and Cuba
